First of all the BIGGEST thanks to the Barcelona team for arranging this very nice and interesting 7th Nightingale Conference,“Opportunities in mentoring: Education 360°.

I think partners agree that this conference gave us opportunities to learn, explore and get new insight. But also to network with others! The very quick evaluation also showed that all participants seemed to be very satisfied.

I also want to thank you,  all Nightingale partners, who participated in the network meeting, Wednesday the 14th.  I am very happy for the fruitful discussions we had and the feed-back you gave.

The Minutes  from this network meeting is uploaded on the website or here . Please read them!

Interesting Research?
Do youth mentoring programs change the perspectives and improve the life opportunities of at risk youth  by Núria Rodríguez-Planas, Germany

The researcher found positive but modest effects, especially for females, the most disadvantaged or at-risk youths. The results however vary depending on the characteristic of the individuals involved and the quality of the relationships formed between mentors and mentees And the researcher means that studies and data collection need to focus on a broad spectrum of life outcomes (including non-cognitive skills) over a long period of time. Only with that kind of information, she says it will be possible to disentangle outcomes and answer the following questions: Do the short-term changes generated by mentoring programs persist, or do they fade over time? Do they translate into longer-term payoffs, as measured by different life achievements?
